STORY

PROFILE

Catherine “Kay” Clune Gillis

K Art and Design is named for my godmother, Great Aunt Kay. Aunt Kay always had a project or two…or three…in the works. She was as generous with her craft supplies as she was with her praise. Many summer nights were spent at the shore house creating items for her ladies’ club bazaars. Aunt Kay’s support helped me become one of the first members of my family to attend college. The seeds of my business were planted with those early experiences, playing with glue and paint. With more than 20 years in business, the spirit of sharing knowledge, as well as offering opportunities to youth, remain at the core of what I do.

Founded in January 2002 by Kelly Rozwadowski, K Art and Design offers graphic design services, art, and art instruction. I partner with my customers to brainstorm ideas, navigate deadlines, maximize budgets, and coordinate efforts.

I have a passion for clear and informed design, which means I get to know your business and your goals before creating a single graphic. I want to learn the unique aspects of your organization so that I can spotlight what makes it special and help you reach your audience. I am an experienced professional with degrees in graphic design and illustration as well as more than 30 years experience in the design field.

I maintain a regular sketchbook practice and encourage aspiring artists to use small pockets of time as creative breaks. I paint in watercolors and acrylics with my favorite subjects being flowers and food. I have taught art classes, workshops, and camps for all ages through the studio, Windmore Foundation for the Arts, and Culpeper County Parks & Recreation. As a teacher, I strive to create a low-stress environment for students to explore, learn, and support each other.

I also work as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at Yowell Elementary School which provides its own creative challenges and rewards! I incorporate art and crafts into lessons when I can to help reduce stress, increase engagement, and keep learning fun.
